A Bill for an Act to provide for accurate identification of palm oil in goods, and for related purposes
The Parliament of Australia enacts:
This Act is the Competition and Consumer Amendment (Truth in Labelling—Palm Oil) Act 2017.
(1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

The day after this Act receives the Royal Assent.

Note: This table relates only to the provisions of this Act as originally enacted. It will not be amended to deal with any later amendments of this Act.
(2) Any information in column 3 of the table is not part of this Act. Information may be inserted in this column, or information in it may be edited, in any published version of this Act.
Legislation that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.
The purpose of this Act is to ensure that consumers have clear, accurate information about the inclusion of palm oil in goods.
1 After section 134 of Schedule 2
Insert:
(1) The Commonwealth Minister must, within 12 months after the commencement of this section, make an information standard under subsection 134(1) for goods containing palm oil.
(2) The Commonwealth Minister must ensure that an information standard for goods containing palm oil is in force at all times after the first one comes into force.
(3) The information standard must:
(a) apply in relation to goods manufactured on or after a date no later than 12 months after the commencement of this section; and
(b) apply in relation to goods supplied by way of retail sale; and
(c) require the provision of the information that the goods contain palm oil, regardless of the amount of palm oil used in the goods; and
(d) provide for the information to be provided on a label that:
(i) is on the goods; or
(ii) is on the package of the goods; or
(iii) accompanies the goods; or
(iv) is displayed in connection with the sale of the goods.
